2 die in lorry accident at Ankyenin

Two persons, one male and a female, died on the spot in a fatal crash at Ankyenin, near Apowa on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta Highway, in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, the police said.

The Western Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Chief Superintendent of Police Richard Appiah, confirmed the accident the Ghanaian Times  yesterday.

He said about seven passengers, four women and three men, who sustained injuries were also rushed to Kwesiminstim Hospital, and two other victims were also on admission at Effia Nkwanta Hospital.

Chief Sup Appiah said, the driver, Alfred Kwame Quayson, was currently in police custody whilst another driver, Alfred Ayensu, who complained of bodily pains was receiving treatment at the Kwesimintim Hospital.

The Western Regional MTTD Commander said that at about  4:30pm on Saturday,  Quayson was driving a man diesel trailer  truck with registration number  WR  1044-14 from Takoradi to Tarkwa, whilst  Ayensu,  was driving a Toyota Hiace bus  with registration number  WR 1658- 16, carrying  14 passengers,  from  Agona Nkwanta.

 He said on reaching a section of the road near Ankyenin junction on the Agona Nkwanta-Takoradi road, Quayson over took a vehicle in front of him, and in the process pumped into the bus.

Chief Sup Appiah said the Toyota Hiace bus had been towed to the police station whilst the man diesel truck packed at a shell filling station, near Novelle cold store, was yet to be towed to police station.
