Two persons lost their lives and 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries in a ghastly accident that occurred early yesterday morning between Gomoa Akotsi Junction and Awutu Bereku in the Central Region.
Four out of 10 victims rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, were in coma with the rest who sustained serious injuries receiving treatment.
Four others were also at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
The bodies, a male and a female, have since been deposited at the
trauma and specialist hospital.
According to the Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, ASP Shadrach Amfo, the accident occurred at about 4am between a tipper-truck with registration number GX 9475- 14 and a sprinter Mercedes Benz bus with registration number AS 2833-12, which collided head-on.
He said the tipper truck was heading to Akoti to cart sand while the sprinter was heading towards Accra with passengers who had gone to celebrate the Senya Akomasi festival when the two vehicles collided head-on near a secondary school.
He said, according to the Benz bus drivers’ mate, who is in a better condition, his master failed in an attempt to overtake some vehicles ahead of him, leading to the accident.
