A WELDER and his apprentice died instantly in a gas explosion yesterday at a wielding shop at Amanfrom, in the Ga South Municipality.
The apprentice has been identified as Akwasi.
The bodies of the two have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
The Deputy Kasoa District Police Commander, David Osei Foffie, told The Ghanaian Times by phone yesterday, that the District Police Command received information about the explosion at 1:30 p.m. and dispatched a patrol team to the area.
The team gathered that the explosion occurred at a wielding shop during a maintenance work on a cylinder.
“We were informed that somebody took a cylinder to a wielding shop and while working on it, the cylinder exploded and killed the two, while one got injured,” he said.
ASP Foffie said an Ambulance came to convey the two dead bodies to the mortuary, while the injured was sent to the hospital for treatment.
This incident comes barely two months after the explosion at the Goil Filling Station during the floods at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, that claimed over 150 lives.
