TWO gunmen who entered a shop at Kwabenya in Accra to steal cosmetics at gunpoint have been apprehended by the police.
The suspects, Lester Mensah, 22 and Orton Quarteng, 23, were said to have pointed a gun at the shop owner and made away with the booty.
The third accomplice, identified as Richard Opoku Asamoah, is on the run and being sought by the police.
Items retrieved from the suspects by the police were AA cartridges, two locally-manufactured pistols and a quantity of foreign ammunition.
The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, at a press briefing in Accra yesterday said at about 7:40 a.m. on December 28, three men armed with a locally-manufactured pistol, attacked and robbed a shop at Kwabenya.
He said the robbers entered the shop under the pretext of buying a shower gel.
Just as they were about to be attended to, they pointed the pistol at the shop owner and threatened to kill her. They tied her mouth and hands with a cellotape, and proceeded to pack items from the shop into bags. After that they boarded a taxi with registration number GW8845-15 and sped off.
ACP Bonga said the shop owner was freed by a passerby who contacted the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
He said upon interrogation the suspects admitted the offence.
