TWO brothers got drowned at ‘Bolla’ Beach at Osu in Accra, when they went swimming during the Easter festivities..
The deceased, Bright Oduro, 20, and Thomas Effah, 17, were reported to have gone to the beach on Holy Saturday for merry-making, when the tragedy occurred.
The Osu Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Apeatu Adobo, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times yesterday, said the bodies had been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Saying that investigations were on-going to establish the cause of death, and he cautioned revellers to be wary whenever they go to the beach.
He said an elderly person who saw the bodies washed ashore, reported the incident to the police on Sunday morning.
ASP Adobo said relatives, who identified the bodies, said the two were from Obo Kwahu, but residing at Achimota, Accra and were both refrigeration and air-conditioner repair apprentices.
The La Police, however, did not record any casualty after the Easter picnic and jams at the La Beach and its environs.
The La District Police Commander, Superintendent Wilson Kutze, told The Ghanaian Times that his outfit dispatched about 100 uniformed, and plain-clothed personnel to provide security along the beach.
He said the Police would continue to deploy personnel along the beaches to avert any casualities during festive occasions.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Effia Tenge, said her outfit had not recorded any casualty from the beaches, a day after the massive turn-out on Monday.
