Two persons have been arrested by the police for allegedly possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, at different locations in the Ga West municipality.

Kwabena Avor, driver, and Sheriff Hayford, footballer, both 28 years were apprehended at Ablorman and Ashalaja respectively with the suspected dried leaves.

The Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent (Chief Sup) Francis Yiribaare, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday.

He said on November 19, Detective Oscar Yeboah arrested Avor in possessing of a black handbag and took him to the Amasaman police station.

Chief Sup Yiribaare said a search carried out in the bag revealed two slaps of compressed dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said the suspect admitted ownership of the drugs, but failed to show the police the supplier.

Chief Supt Yiribaare said on November 16, at about 7:30p.m when Hayfron saw personnel of the Amasaman Divisional Police, who went for an operation at Ablorman Hayfron, he fled into his room with a bag.

He said the police chased Hayfron to his room, and when he was arrested and a search carried out dry leaves suspected to Indian hemp were found.

Chief Supt Yiribaare said the dried leaves would be sent to the forensic laboratory for analyses.

He said the two suspects have been arraigned at the Amasaman Circuit Court and would appear again on December 10.
