2 arrested for attempting to smuggle ‘wee’

A businesswoman, who attempted to smuggle 650 slabs of “wee”  weighing 549,440 grammes to Nigeria, has been remanded in police custody by the Accra Circuit Court “One”.

Madam Grace Addai, owner of Grace Adepoju Ventures Enterprises, a cargo transport company, at Tudu, Accra, was arrested together with Mr. Joseph Jolayemi, a store keeper, by the personnel of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).

The suspects, who concealed the narcotics in 14 bales of used clothes (buroni wawu) on November 3, 2015, at Tudu to be transported to Nigeria, pleaded not guilty to the charge of “possessing narcotic drugs without licence” issued by the Minister of Health.

The judge, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, remanded them in police custody until March 27,2017.

Prosecution said that laboratory test conducted by the Ghana Standards Authority had proved the 650 labs of the dried leaves to be Cannabis Sativa (wee) weighing 549,440 grammes.
