One person was shot dead and another injured, following a misunderstanding between two neighbours over land at Coco Beach, in Nungua, a suburb of Accra on Monday evening.
The dead, who was only identified as Razak, was reported to have been part of four armed men, who went to the house of one Bismark Attoh to confront him over land, which has for years been the centre of a dispute between the two.
Two people, Agaim and Attoh, have been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
A search in their house at Nungua, led to the retrieval of a pump action gun, two empty shells and three knives.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge, who confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, stated that the body of Razak has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary while the injured, identified only as Ansah was on admission at the 37 Military Hospital.
She said at about 7:15pm on September 25, Agaim and three men armed with knives went to the house of a neighbour, Attoh, to attack him over the disputed land.
ASP Effia said unknown to them, Attoh was armed with a pump action gun and when they attacked him, he fired the weapon indiscriminately, shot and killed one of the three men, who had accompanied Agaim to his house.
She said another member of the group, identified only as Ansah also sustained gunshot injuries while the third person was able to escape.
The Public Affairs Officer said the police found that Agaim had led a group of men earlier to offload a truck of stones on the land which was in contention.
She said there was a clash between Agaim and Attoh and Attoh was reported to have been beaten by Agaim and his gang, leading to him (Attoh) arming himself with the gun.
