15 drivers arrested for traffic offences

The police have arrested 15 drivers for allegedly driving vehicles with tinted windscreens, in Accra, on Wednesday.

The vehicles, including private vehicles and taxi cabs, operating in New Town, Pig Farm and Spintex areas, have been impounded.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Inspector Kwabena Danso, who confirmed the story to Ghanaian Times, said the exercise was to clamp down on drivers, who use such cars for robbery and kidnapping.

He reminded the public that driving cars with tinted glasses was against the road traffic regulation, Act 2012 LI 2180 67(3)(4).

Insp Danso said the act indicates that “a person shall not drive a motor vehicle unless that motor vehicle has a windscreen or partition made of a transparent material’’.

He asked vehicle owners to fix transparent windscreens on their vehicles for easy visibility on the roads and easy identification of occupants of such cars.

Insp Danso said the exercise would be sustained to ensure discipline on the roads and also promote safety.

He cautioned drivers to desist from driving vehicle with tinted windscreens, and appealed to journalists to support the campaign against traffic offences.
