120 truck drivers improve skills

About 120 truckers have received refresher training in Tema to update their driving skills and to reduce road accidents. 

The training programme, organised by Zonda Sino Truck Company Limited, was also aimed at sensitising haulage truck drivers on the need to drive safely and to uplift the image of their profession in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Zonda Sino Truck Company Limited, Mrs. Yang Yang, said it was important for commercial transport operators to take driver refresher courses regularly to enhance their professional competence in order to stem the incessant accidents and needless road deaths and injuries on Ghana’s roads”.

She said as part of its corporate social responsibility the company would ensure that all articulator drivers were trained in driving skills and risks, hazard perception, how to change gears, passenger security, customer care and road traffic regulations among other things.

“I believe that the training initiative signifies a new beginning for all and will contribute towards the reduction in road fatalities,” she said.

Kofi Adu Asare, one of the participants, said if drivers, especially those in the commercial haulage sector, were given regular refresher courses like this one, it would go a long way to reduce road traffic fatalities and prepare them to handle modern earth moving equipments introduced into the country”.
