Twelve passengers perished and 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries, in a gory accident involving two vehicles which collided head-on at Branam on the Wenchi – Wa highway yesterday morning.
Eleven of the dead, were burnt beyond recognition while one died later at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the two vehicles were coming from opposite directions and on reaching Branam, the Ford Transit Bus with registration number BA-2624N, run into the OA Bus, with registration number GT-4629 B.
The collision reportedly caused the Ford Transit Bus to burst into flames which resulted in the fatalities.
Speaking to The Ghanaian Times, Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO1), Ignatius Noekor, acting Brong Ahafo Regional Operations Officer of GNFS, said all the 12 casualties were part of the 23 people on board the Ford Transit Bus.
He said it was only the driver of the Grand Bird OA bus who sustained injury, but was treated and discharged at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
ADO1 Noekor said the bodies have been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital Mortuary, while the 11 others were still on admission.
