1,000 rendered homeless at Bimbilla

Some displaced women passing through the flood withe their belongings,MORE than 1000 residents in Bimbilla in the Northern Region, have been displaced following a downpour that hit the area on Tuesday.

The rainstorm that hit the town in the Nanumba North District, ripped off the roofs of more than 200 houses including the classroom blocks in Machoni, Gulyansi, Manja and Gunguni.

Electrical appliances such as refrigerators, and television sets, foodstuffs and other belongings of residents, were also destroyed in the torrential rains.

Victims of the rainstorm are currently living with friends, family members and relatives in the area.

Officials of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in the district are yet to receive relief items from the headquarters in Accra for distribution to the displaced residents.

The situation, according to reports, has left victims of the rainstorm stranded and helpless.

The DCE for Nanumba North, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, told Joy News that the assembly could not immediately attend to the plight of the affected persons, because its resources had been used up to maintain peace in the area.

Bimbilla is among the hotspots for ethnic and chieftaincy clashes in the Northern Region.
