10 nabbed with ‘wee’

Ten people have been arrested in a swoop by the police at Nsawam in the Eastern Region for allegedly possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

They are Dotse Samuel Zoglo, 31, mason; Wahab Ussif, 32, farmer; Stephen Doku, 48, unemployed; Michael Kwame Kyei, 25; labourer, and Kofi Adu, 22, mason.

The rest are Alexander Anane, 21,electrician, Lawson Ankrah, 40, carpenter; Kweku Felix, 49, farmer; Mohammed Amona,19 and Tahiru Anni, 20, khebab sellers.

The special operation, led by the District Commander, Chief Superintendent Akwasi Kankam-Boadu and aimed at flushing out criminals from the area, was carried out at Hebron, Dobro, Ntoaso and the Nsawam Prison field.

Chief Supt. Kankam-Boadu said the areas came into focus, following complaints received by the Command from residents, of the activities of drug peddlers there.

The suspects were arrested with wrappers and four compressed slabs of “wee”, and would be screened and those found culpable, put before court for possessing narcotic drugs without authority.

The District Police Commander said the exercise would be sustained to ensure the eradication of such activities in the area and warned those engaging in them to stop, since they would be made to face the law, if arrested.

Chief Supt. Kankam-Boadu urged the public to provide them information on the criminals, to enable them to be apprehended and assured that informants would be protected.
