10 Ghanaian students excel in int’l competition

Ten out of 21 students, who represented Ghana at last year’s International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition, have excelled in their categories.

Master William Nana Kwame Danso of the Crown Prince Academy at Kwashibu, in Accra, was the overall winner of the competition, held in the United Arab Emirates.

He was the only participant, who was able to answer 200 questions correctly within the required period of eight minutes.

The Technical Director of Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic Systems (UCMAS), Mrs. Kirti Gurbani, disclosed these yesterday, at the company’s office in Accra.

He  said  Master  Danso ,   would  have 50 per  cent  of his  school fees  paid  for an  academic year, and a trophy, as his prize.

Mrs. Gurbani indicated that the competition, an annual event, was organised by UCMAS Education Group.

The Chief Executive Officer of UCMAS, Ghana, Mr. Roger Ohemeng, said the competition, which was on brain development, brought together 4,000 participants from 62 countries across the world.

The Director of Crown Prince Academy, Mrs. Susanne Prince-Boateng, urged parents to allow their children to participate in the competition.
