Misunderstanding has forced electoral officials to indefinitely suspend voting at four constituencies in the Ashanti Region in Saturday’s parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
They were Kwadaso, Afigya Kwabre South, Atwima Kwanwoma and Suame.
Tension escalated between contestants and their supporters over the voter’s ID card forcing the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend the exercise indefinitely.
At the Kwadaso constituency, one of the aspirants, Khalid Alhassan Kusi, and some delegates protested the acceptance of the national voter’s ID card creating a misunderstanding.
“We agreed to use the party’s card as a prerequisite for voting, but the EC insisted they have been directed to accept the voter’s ID card which was contested by Khalid Alhassan Kusi who suspected a foulplay.
“Later the police and EC advised that the exercise is suspended for security reasons as tension escalated,” Moro Issah, the constituency chairman noted.
Voting at Afigya Kwabre South was suspended due to a misunderstanding over the voter’s register.
Primaries were scheduled by the party’s Functional Executive Committee to take place in 15 constituencies but two constituencies, Atwima Kwanwoma and Suame have been put on hold.
At Adansi Asokwa, Odotobri, Nhyiaeso, Manhyia South and Manhyia North where the candidates are unopposed, the five aspirants were introduced to delegates as automatic candidates for the party in the 2020 general election. -3news.com
