Local Govt Service holds w/shop for human resource officers

The Head of Local Government Service, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has warned staff of the service that, management will deal with anyone found to have engaged in acts which go contrary to the laws governing their work.

He, therefore, admonished the staff to demonstrate high sense of professionalism, integrity and neutrality in the discharge of their duties.

Dr Arthur was speaking at the opening of a training workshop for human resource officers from three regions, namely; Central, Western and North West at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) municipality of the Central Region.

The workshop which is being held in other areas was to expose the participants to critical issues that would ensure that they become efficient in the discharge of their duties. Participants during the four-day workshop would look at budget processes and procedures, salary administration, managing labour and employee relations, and communication skills as well as human resource management and other issues.

Dr Arthur stated that the Local Government Service Council and the Head of Local Government Service were making efforts at ensuring that the Local Government Service was secured to deliver value for money services.

“The human resource function is very critical. The ultimate success and failure of any organisation often comes down to the quality of people working in that organisation,” he said.

The office, he noted, acknowledged the importance of human resource management and development.

He said, “all efforts are therefore being made to ensure that the human resource function is well managed to enable the service has the requisite skills mix, well-motivated and coordinated in a coherent manner to effectively and efficiently deliver the much needed services.”

Dr Arthur further said that, the service had been making contacts with various stakeholders, including development partners, for support, and stated that, all 574 staff in the professional cadre of human resource (HR) managers’ class were expected to participate in the workshop.

“As Head of Service, I deem it expedient to ensure that all HRs across the country benefit from  a training being organised not only to position the Local Government Service to be world class, but also to bridge gaps identified through the needs assessment process,” he said.

He urged the participants to take active part in all the modules, exercises and activities, explaining that, the modules had been carefully planned to benefit all of them.

The Central Regional Co-ordinating Director, Kingsley Agyei Boahen, in his welcome address, urged human resource officers at the various assemblies to demonstrate high sense of dedication and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

He explained that, the elevation of the Human Resource Unit to the status of a department required officers to be professional and also ensure that, they liaised with other departments for the needed transformation.
