GMA offers free medical screening to inmates of Tamale Central Prisons

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has offered free medical screening to the inmates of Tamale Central Prisons here on Monday.

The GMA also donated some medical supplies and consumables worth GH¢25,000.00 to the authorities of the Tamale Central Prisons.

Additionally, the GMA presented a cash of GH¢4,000.00 to help address some of the financial needs of the Tamale Central Prisons.

President of the GMA, Dr Frank Ankobea, who led  some of the members to the Tamale Central Prisons explained that, the donation and screening was part of the association’s effort to assist ameliorate the suffering of the inmates of the prisons.

He explained that the gesture formed part of the association’s 61st Annual General Conference, to be held in Tamale.

The chairman of the Prisons Council, Most Rev. Peter Paul Y. Angkyier, who is the Catholic Bishop of the Damongo Diocese of the Catholic Church, expressed his appreciation to the GMA for the gesture.

He stressed that the support was laudable as it would help improve the health status of the inmates, and added that, “the donation and the screening demonstrate the love the association have for the under privileged.”

The Deputy Director of Prisons in charge of the Tamale Central Prisons, Yaw Tannor, thanked the benefactors for the gesture, and appealed to other organisations and individuals to emulate the example of the GMA.

“I’m appealing for more support from other public-spirited individuals, groups and organisations,” he pleaded.
