Digital technology innovators need support - MTN, CEO

PGovernment must support digital technology innovators to come out with new digital products and services to enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in the international digital technology market,   Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh has said.

He said Ghana was doing well in the international digital technology market as young Ghanaians were developing highly competitive digital technology products and services to address the socio-economic problems.

Mr Adadevoh who was speaking in an interview with the media in Accra at the weekend after this year’s edition of the Spring Board Road Show, said supporting local digital technology innovators would help them to commercialise their innovations and compete with their international peers.

The programme, organised by the Spring Board Road Show Foundation in collaboration with Legacy and Legacy and under the theme, ‘The digital revolution’, attracted hundreds of participants.

As part of the annual programme, which is the 13th in the series, there was talent exposure which gave opportunity to sell digital technology products they had developed and the winner took home a financial package of GHȻ50,000, while the first runner-up took home GHȻ3000 and the second runner-up took home GHȻ2000.

Mr Adadevoh said digital technology offered huge prospects for the country in terms of job creation, and development of new digital technologies for the international digital technology market.

To this end, he stressed the need for the country’s educational system to be “re-oriented” to incorporate digital technology issues.

That, Mr Adadevoh said, would expose pupils and students to digital technology at the early stage of their lives and make them develop interest in the sector.

The CEO of MTN Ghana disclosed that MTN Ghana had launched the MTN App Challenge to support young digital innovators to develop applications to address Ghana’s socio-economic development challenges.

He said MTN Ghana’s digital evolution was to meet the current digital revolution and stay relevant to the customers of the company.

“People are becoming sophisticated and are demanding for new innovative digital products,” Mr Adadevoh said.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Life improvement’, earlier on, Mr Adadevoh entreated the youth to take advantage of the opportunities around them.

He also entreated the youth not to cut corners but work hard and adapt to good ethical values in life.

Co-founder of the Spring Board Road Show Foundation, Comfort Ocran said digital technology offered huge business opportunities for the youth.

She said also digital technology was improving the lives of people and changing how businesses were run.
