Africa Methodist Council meets in Accra

The Africa Methodist Council (AMC) has held its maiden Executive (Exco) meeting in Accra with a call on its members to preach about Christ to Africans.

The meeting brought together more than 200 bishops, ministers of the gospel, church directors, synod secretaries, administrators, choral groups and staff of the council among others.

The Presiding Bishop of Methodist Church Ghana, Most Reverend Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, in his exhortation, stated that it was time bishops and members of the council learn from the good works of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church.

He explained that John Wesley made it a mandate to offer Christ to the marginalised, stressing that there was the need for the missionaries to continue his good job.

Most Rev. Dr Boafo indicated that the current generation was living a perverse life, with some of them indulging in same sex marriage, prostitution and other social vices.

He, therefore, charged pastors to lighten their path with the words of God.

“We live in a fragile and broken world, society is torn apart with many immoral acts, sexual transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS has raided Africa,  so we have to offer Christ to heal the people,” Most Rev. Boafo stated.

He challenged Methodists in Africa to rise up and go to the dioceses to convert people in order to make Africa a better place.

Rev. Joseph Ntombura, the President of AMC and a Presiding Bishop of Methodist in Kenya, noted that Africa could have been more developed, if the church preached about Jesus Christ to transform selfish individuals in government and in society at large.

The immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Titus Kofi Awortwi Pratt, lauded the church for organising the meeting.

He urged members of the AMC to constantly offer prayers to strengthen themselves, and urged them to exhibit exemplary leadership qualities for others to emulate.
