Labour Department to be revamped

The Labour Department under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations is to be revamped to make it more functional and attractive to prospective job seekers and employers.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Baffour Awuah who disclosed this, said about 26 labour offices across the country have been earmarked to receive attention by the ministry.

The project which is currently under procurement stage, and expected to take off by the close of the year, is being supported by the European Union and German Cooperation International (GIZ).

Mr Awuah was speaking in an interview with journalists in Sunyani on the sidelines of a two-day workshop for senior management members of the ministry.

He said the labour offices would be installed with a software known as the Ghana Labour Information System.

This, he said, would be a reference point for job seekers and employers who are seeking information.

“It will also help offer advice to policy makers as well as fill the gaps in employment related issues in the country,” Mr Awuah said.

The workshop on the theme, “Synergising the Core Mandate, Role and Responsibilities of Directorates, Department and Agencies”, was to enable the participants brainstorm and identify a common platform of the various agencies under the ministry to work together to achieve similar goals and objectives.
