IoD-GH holds forum on good corporate governance

The Institute of Directors Ghana (IoD-GH), has organised a forum in Wa, on good corporate governance and ethical practices to prevent corruption.

The forum was attended by heads of institutions, entrepreneurs, managers and secretaries of various departments and agencies including members of the Ghana Prisons Service.

A nine-member voluntary board to represent was formed to sensitise managers of both public and private organisations, civil society organisations, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to enhance high productivity.

The programme was held under the theme: ‘Good corporate governance.’

Mr Rockson K. Dogbegah, President of the Institute of Directors Ghana, said if organisations were governed well, ethical culture, good performance, effective management and legitimacy would be the expected outcome.

He said advocacy was a collective responsibility which ought to be adopted to support best management practices in various institutions and help prevent corruption.

Mr Dogbegah said, IoD-GH as part of the training, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wa Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions in the country to provide training on good leadership skills.

Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, urged participants especially district assemblies to upgrade themselves with modern technology to enhance revenue mobilisation.

He said the use of technology was critical and called on the top management of public institutions to build their capacities in Information Communication Technology to prevent waste of resources and enhance effective service delivery.

Dr Bin-Salih urged heads of public institutions to stop partisan politics and sabotaging government of the day due to their political affiliation.

He said internal control and risk management among institutions were poor especially in the municipal and district assembly levels and this sometimes led to waste of funds and corrupt activities.

Dr Bin-Salih called on institutions to implement proper internal control and risks management to prevent waste. GNA
