The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, last Saturday, distributed food items to Muslims in the Ayawaso Central Municipality as part of the 3rd annual Grand TAFSIR/IFTAR.
The TAFSIR/IFTAR meaning “Prayers and breaking the fast” is held annually to end the Ramadan fast.
The items distributed included rice, cooking oil, packed cooked food and assorted soft drinks.
In a short presentation ceremony held at the Alajo Park in Accra, Mr Quartey who is Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, called on Muslim youths to exercise caution during the Sallah (Eidul Fitr) and asked that during the celebrations they should drive carefully especially those who want to display with their motorbikes.
“Please drive safely and don’t engage in dangerous acts during the celebrations,” he cautioned.
Mr Quartey also called on citizens in the “Zongos” to desist from joining political vigilante groups, pointing out that the youth and the people in the “Zongos” are not tools for violence.
He stressed the need for peaceful co-existence in the community and hoped for a unified and non-violent community.
“The practitioners of religion must show the peacefulness of the religion through their actions and inactions through nation-building and this will engender development in the communities in which we live,” the Deputy Interior Minister stated.
The Chairman of the Hajj Board, Sheikh I.C. Quaye, in his goodwill message called for peace for the country and for Muslims and hoped that the Ramadan had brought Muslims closer to Allah and that the teachings they received at the event would help them in their daily lives.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, expressed gratitude to the MP for Ayawaso Central who had shown goodwill to Muslims and hoped that this kindness would be replicated by all Muslims across the country.
He thanked Allah for allowing many Muslims to be present for the event and hoped that they would keep the teachings they had learnt and would continue to help build the nation through peace.
The National Chief Imam asked that peace and security remain in the country and that it should spread around the world.
Present at the occasion were Imams from the community and the region along with Muslim faithful from educational institutions and surrounding communities.
