Accra Hearts of Oak put up a spirited performance to draw 1-1 with league leaders Wa All Stars in their 25th week Ghana Premier League (GPL) game played at the Wa Park yesterday.
Determined to keep the heat on the league leaders, the Phobians who until recently saw their enviable away record being blown away at the hands of WAFA, gave a good account of themselves in the first half that saw Wa All Stars slightly ahead.
Striker Maxwell Baako and winger Emmanuel Ocran brought the best out of the defensive pair of Insuah Musah and Vincent Atinga as they worked tirelessly to keep them away from causing havoc.
In the opposite direction, the trio of Patrick Razak, Samuel Yeboah and Ibrahim Musah kept the host goal area boiling at the least opportunity, forcing the leaders to alter their style of play mid-way through the half.
On the 39th minute mark goalkeeper Samuel Akrugu was forced into a beautiful save by Ocran who hit a low drive toward goal only for the shot stopper to dive and push it over the goal line.
In the 61st minute Kofi Atta Yeboah drew rings round the defense-line of the Phobians to slot home the opener for the leaders.
The Phobians not perturbed by the goal took the game to their opponents and in the 74th minute got a well-deserved equalizer through striker Yeboah who tapped home a free kick from Richard Akrofi.
Spurred on by the goal, the Rainbow boys threw more men forward in search for the match winner and replaced Patrick Razak with striker Kwame Kizito in the 80th minute but his addition did little to change the score line on the afternoon.
