Defence Minister courts Kuwaiti investors

The Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul has called on Kuwaiti investors to take advantage of incentive packages of Ghana’s industralisation policies to invest in the country.

He said programmes such as One-District-One-Factory and Planting for Food and Jobs were part of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Ghana Beyond Aid initiative, which creates room for Kuwaiti investors to take advantage.

This, he said would enable the private sector map out successful collaboration for the mutual benefit of the two countries and their people.

The Minister made the call during the celebration of the 58th anniversary of the National Day and the 28th anniversary of the Liberation of the State of Kuwait in Accra last Friday.

The occasion brought together Ministers of States, Members of Parliament, diplomatic corps, and traditional rulers among others.

Mr Nitiwul said the relationship between Ghana and the State of Kuwait dates back to 1974, adding that the bond between the two countires has grown steadily and culminated in the establishment of diplomatic missions in each other’s territory.

He said the most recent visit to that country was when the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway performed the official opening of the Ghana mission in Kuwait last year.

The Minister said the upcoming visit by President Akufo-Addo to Kuwait in the first half of this year would also move the level of relationship onto higher pedestal for the advancement of the two countries.

He commended the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Government and People of Kuwait on the occasion.

The Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Ghana, Mr Mohammed Hussain Al-Failakawi said assistance and aid provided to Ghana by charitable societies and organisations from the State of Kuwait reached about US$ 5million last year, which was used in the building of schools, places of worship, orphanages,clinics and drilling of artesian well.

He said diplomatic ties between the State of Kuwait and Ghana dated far back as 1974 which has generated mutual interest including political, economic, cultural and other areas of common interest.

On the upcoming visit of President Akufo-Addo to Kuwait, he said his Embassy was working with their Ghanaian side to prepare for the visit

He added that there are also preparations for several political, economic and labour agreements to be signed; bringing to five, the number of agreements to be signed between the two countries this year.

“In the area of aid and economic projects the two countries would sign an agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development to obtain a loan of 10 million dollars for reconstructing the main road from Dome to Kitasi,” he added.
